Last Gathering documents an ending. The book is the story of a fleeting yet meaningful evening that chronicles death metal fans through candid portrayals as they rejoice and bathe themselves in the sounds of their beloved band. This event's memory, including my images and research on death themes as depicted in music, became my reflection and memento mori for this unending, Covid global pandemic. It was a time when the world looked different.

The metal music had brought me from the ordinary and every day to an existential moment of anti-structure. But more than that, the event was an omen of what was about to unfold. And as such, it was an affective temporal passage to a radical, disoriented change in my life — an upheaval where time becomes ambiguous and death and uncertainty reign. I became haunted by thoughts of mortality. I long to escape from this unknown world and peer into a looking glass of pure possibility and howl. “
