Gelatin silver print overpainted with oil, 20 x 20 inches

Couples and One, 1999. An installation of four mural-size rephotographed found images.  The over-painted and marked photographic works examine the relationship between gesture, pose and meaning.  While the manipulated portraits emphasize the difficulty inherit in understanding relationships, the single image of the swimmer, moving parallel to shore, intentionally acts as an opposing metaphor to the impossibility of ever knowing another completely.
